Deploying Modern Website Designs to Enhance UX

The IRS was hindered with an outdated proprietary platform, resulting in slow workflows for creating and updating content for its website. It needed a modern website based on human centered design.

MetroStar migrated the Agency to a modern technology stack (featuring open source Drupal CMS and AWS GovCloud hosting solutions), creating a more efficient website that allows for quick content updates.

However, the Agency also lacked a customized job-board on its site, making searching and applying for IRS jobs difficult. The MetroStar team interviewed IRS recruiters and applicants to better understand what they needed from a custom platform.

Using human centered design techniques based on these conversations, we integrated USAJobs with the IRS’s website. This platform ensures jobs are easy to search for (e.g., by GS-level, desired salary, etc.), and allows users to easily jump from the IRS site to the USAJobs site where they can apply. It also disseminates candidate’s information to the IRS team, so they may be better served by recruiters.

By providing IRS a modern website and creating a new, intuitive jobs site based on human centered design, we allow the Agency to manage its own infrastructure securely and efficiently, and have enhanced the user experience for both applicants and existing staff.
