Federal Government Website Redesign


Research, design, and redesign a major global brand, with adopting the ‘Open Government Directive’ and improving user experience to serve its diverse customer segments as major goals. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is responsible for regulating interstate and international communications by radio, television, wire, and satellite across the United States and its territories. On December 8, 2009, the FCC set a goal to revamp its website to achieve the Open Government Directive milestones and ensure a proactive platform for effective communication with Government agencies, private industry, and the American public, the FCC needed a website that offered a modern content management system and secure commercial hosted infrastructure to enable its real-time messaging strategy.


MetroStar was awarded and assembled a talented and diverse team to meet both the business and technology requirements the FCC’s needed to deliver an organized, informative, and easy-to-use website. The MetroStar team built the new FCC.gov website using open source technologies and leveraging the Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP (LAMP) stack with Drupal as its open source Content Management System (CMS) to provide the necessary customizations required to meeting a full range of user needs and capabilities. Running Agile Scrum methodology from Day One, we worked in an iterative fashion to support research, conduct metadata schema, and design a scalable cloud infrastructure that met all the FISMA requirements. Hosted in the Terremark Enterprise Cloud, FCC.gov is leveraging a secure hosted infrastructure to meet its security and availability requirements and also control costs for its operations and maintenance.
